On Wednesday, the 2nd of July, Central Solutions attended a Tipperary Green Business Network Event, ‘Water Management within a Catchment Area’, hosted by ABP Food Group in Cahir, Co. Tipperary. The day included a number of talks focused on how Irish organisations are working on incorporating sustainability initiatives into their business strategies and activities.
The day opened with a presentation from Barry O’Donovan, Resource Efficiency Manager at ABP Food Group. Barry outlined the company’s sustainability strategy, which has been built on a number of key targets and KPIs to be achieved by 2020, including:
Reduce Water Consumption by 50%
Reduce Carbon Footprint by 30%
Reduce electricity usage by 40%
Over recent years, we have worked closely with ABP Food Group to help them reach their water consumption targets and achieve international water stewardship leadership. On the day, we were delighted to get the opportunity to entrust Barry and John Durkan from ABP with the Sustainable Water Achievement Award, which we won as a joint entry at this year’s National Green Awards.
John Durkan, Sustainability Manager at ABP Food Group, also gave a presentation on the day outlining ABP’s Sustainability R&D and Waste Water Treatment Technologies. John highlighted how the company has invested in R&D and world-class innovative sustainability technologies to help them meet the high targets outlined above.
Following his presentation, John gave the group a tour of the Cahir Effluent Treatment Plant, an essential component of ABP’s Water Stewardship Strategy and water management achievements.
Other speakers on the day included Niall Keely, the R&D manager here at Central Solutions, Fran Igoe from the Waters and Communities Office, Michael McEniry from NRGE and Ian Kilgallon from Gas Networks Ireland. Topics included: the UN Sustainable Development Goals and going beyond business-as-usual; the River Basin Management Plan for Ireland; anaerobic digestion opportunities; and decarbonising the gas grid with biogas.
Thanks to the Tipperary Green Business Network and ABP Food Group for running and hosting the event. A special thanks to all of the speakers for their insightful presentations on the efforts underway to create a more sustainable future.
